Community members in Columbia, North Carolina (Tyrrell County) are ready for the offensive and racist Confederate monument at their courthouse to be removed. Emancipate NC joined with Concerned Citizens of Tyrrell County to raise a billboard as a call to action.
Confederate monuments are symbols of white supremacy and the enslavement of Black people. They have no place in front of a county courthouse where all residents must go, hoping to find truth, fairness, and justice. The monument in Tyrrell is particularly offensive as it contains the words “Dedicated to Our Faithful Slaves.”
