Here are some updates from the campaign the past 2 weeks!
Last week, Jaelyn Miller and Kerwin Pittman met with Raleigh City Council members Christina Jones, Mary Black, Jonathan Melton, and Megan Patton to discuss the implementation of Holistic Empathetic Alternative Response Teams (HEART) in Raleigh.
Emancipate team members also met with the members of Addressing Crises through Outreach, Referrals, Networking, and Service (ACORNS), a group dedicated to connecting with individuals in crisis and providing them with the resources needed to meet their individual goals.
The Raleigh HEART coalition continues to grow with 5 new organizations dedicated to seeing unarmed crisis response in the city: Carolina Jews for Justice, ACLU North Carolina, Democracy Out Loud, Daybreak Oneness Ministries and Forward Justice.
There are multiple ways to get involved in the campaign to bring Raleigh HEART:
– Join the over 120 people who have written a letter to city council to show your support for unarmed alternative crisis response
– Become a partner organization or advocate of the coalition to get key campaign updates and opportunities
– Download the Raleigh HEART campaign pamphlet to get success stories, statistics and more.
