Anita Earls, the only Black female justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court, is facing investigation over comments she made regarding the lack of diversity in the state’s judges and lawyers. It is concerning that Justice Earls is the only one being investigated for speaking out against racism and sexism in the justice system.
We must show our support for Justice Earls, who has a long history as a civil rights lawyer and is only the third Black woman to serve in the court’s 205-year history. Justice Earls has both the right under the First Amendment and an ethical obligation to call out any bias present in the judicial system to guarantee that justice is administered fairly in North Carolina. Please sign this letter urging the Commission to drop the investigation against her.
