Emancipate NC is thrilled to celebrate a major milestone in the journey of former intern Caleb Barco, who has officially been sworn in as an attorney.
Caleb’s commitment to justice, public service, and community advocacy has been evident throughout his academic and professional career. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Morehouse College in 2019 before pursuing a dual course of study that culminated in the conferral of both a Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law and a Master of Public Policy from Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy in 2025.
During his time with Emancipate NC, Caleb brought thoughtfulness, dedication, and a deep interest in advancing public safety and community well-being. His work reflected the values that continue to guide his legal career today: a commitment to fairness, accountability, and meaningful reform.
In 2022, Caleb contributed an insightful essay examining approaches to public safety and police-community relations. His article, De-escalation Tactics in Local Policing, explored how law enforcement agencies can adopt practices that prioritize communication, reduce unnecessary use of force, and build stronger trust within communities. The essay was featured on the Emancipate NC blog as part of our post, Raleigh Police Must Adopt a Guardian Mentality.
As Caleb begins this next chapter as an attorney, we are proud to have been a small part of his journey. His accomplishments reflect years of hard work, intellectual rigor, and a steadfast commitment to serving others. We look forward to seeing the impact he will continue to make in the legal profession and in the communities he serves.
Congratulations, Attorney Caleb Barco. Your Emancipate NC family is cheering you on every step of the way.
