Emancipate NC Executive Director Dawn Blagrove joined advocates from across North Carolina for a statewide community briefing following the North Carolina General Assembly’s override of Governor Josh Stein’s vetoes of several controversial bills, including measures affecting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and immigration policy.
Hosted in partnership with the North Carolina Black Alliance, El Pueblo, Common Cause NC, Democracy NC, the North Carolina Black & Brown Policy Network, and Emancipate NC, the virtual briefing helped community members understand the impact of the new laws and what they mean for North Carolina’s future.
During the discussion, Dawn emphasized the importance of remaining informed, organized, and engaged as communities respond to legislative changes that affect civil rights, racial equity, and immigrant communities. The briefing also provided participants with practical tools for advocacy and opportunities to take action at the local and state levels.
