Don’t be fooled by the name–the “child welfare system” is another system with roots in white supremacy and slavery. Emancipate NC’s newest project is the Carolina Parent Defenders. We will be the first organization dedicated to representing parents who have been involuntarily separated from their children through Child Protective Services (CPS).

This week, Elizabeth Simpson, Toia Potts, and Margaux Lander offered a workshop for the Durham-based health and wellness center Radical Healing to educate about the family policing system and to teach mental health professionals how to positively intervene when CPS is involved in their client’s lives.

If you would like us to bring our workshop to your organization, please reach out to contact@carolinaparentdefenders.org. It is well-suited for educators, healthcare workers, prospective foster families, religious groups, and more.
