Even when the long shadow of structural racism and white supremacy falls more quietly upon Black and brown communities, it is still harmful.

The Move the Monument Coalition Edenton-Chowan has been fighting to remove a Confederate monument in Edenton, NC, one of the many remaining statues across NC dedicated to honoring the legacy of the pro-slavery Confederacy. Following a lawsuit filed against the town by various pro-Confederate groups to keep the monument in its place, the Coalition erected a billboard to demonstrate they aren’t backing down.

Rod Phillips, a local activist with the Coalition, says their plan is that “[the billboard] stays up until the monument comes down.”

Emancipate NC managed the financials with the billboard company since the Coalition does not have the infrastructure to do so. We’re not backing down from this fight either.
