Emancipate NC Executive Director Dawn Blagrove is bringing her commitment to justice and legal education directly into the classroom this semester as a professor at North Carolina Central University School of Law. In addition to her work leading Emancipate NC, Dawn is helping prepare the next generation of attorneys by connecting legal theory with the realities of practicing law.

On October 5, Dawn collaborated with Professors Sonia Gipson Rankin and Lisa Kamarchik to bring a special learning opportunity to first-year law students studying torts. The session welcomed NCCU Law alumnus Desmon Andrade, Class of 2009, and former law professor Finesse Couch, who shared insights from both the plaintiff and defense sides of tort litigation.

Students from all three first-year Torts sections had the opportunity to hear firsthand how the concepts they are studying apply in actual legal practice. With midterms approaching, the discussion helped bring classroom lessons to life while giving students a broader understanding of the challenges, strategies, and responsibilities involved in litigation.

Dawn’s role as both a professor at NCCU Law and the Executive Director of Emancipate NC reflects her commitment to shaping the legal profession inside and outside the classroom. By helping students learn from experienced practitioners and understand the practical implications of the law, she is contributing to the development of future attorneys who will help shape the justice system.

Emancipate NC celebrates Dawn’s continued investment in legal education and her work to ensure that the next generation of lawyers is prepared to meet the demands of the profession and the communities they serve.
