On May 20, Dawn Blagrove joined a panel about how communities fight back against oppressive legal systems in the criminal and family courts. These systems mistreat citizens, but we can take back our power through court watching, participatory defense, and community. We are coming together and putting the legal system on notice.
Joining Dawn on the panel was Amanda Wallace with Operation Stop CPS, Cecilia Chavez with Silicon Valley De-Bug, Bashirah McDaniel, a parent survivor, BeKura Shabazz with The Coalition for Families Against Child Separation & Injustice Reform Network, and Qiana Johnson with Life After Release. They discussed how communities are resisting the family and criminal court systems, how the systems respond, and what organizers are doing to overcome these obstacles.
