On June 10, 2025, Emancipate NC Attorney Dillon Sharpe, alongside Attorney Dominique Erney of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, appeared in Durham County Superior Court to advocate for transparency and justice. They represented North Carolina Central University students and a professor who were arrested on April 16, 2025, during a lawful speak-out rally protesting unsafe and unacceptable housing conditions on campus.

In a win for the First Amendment and community accountability, the judge granted the full public release of the police body camera footage from the protest—with no restrictions.

This marks a significant step in the fight for truth and justice on behalf of our clients and the broader NCCU community.
