Emancipate NC is asking for the community’s help in connecting with anyone who has had an encounter with Officer Jennifer Umphlet of the Greenville Police Department.

Officer Umphlet is the officer who appeared to strike our client, Mr. Anthony Drayton, in the head with handcuffs multiple times while he was being held down by other officers at McDonalds in February of 2025.
Though Umphlet has publicly stated that she “likes to be an example of a good cop, one that’s here to actually serve the people and have their best interest at heart,” we have heard some accounts that raise serious concerns. Several individuals have already come forward, and we are seeking to hear from as many people as possible. These accounts describe the use of force, including punching, slamming individuals into vehicles or the ground, and other aggressive tactics.
We are concerned about the reports we have heard. If you or someone you know has had an encounter with Officer Umphlet, please share your experience through our report form:
Please include contact information so we can follow up.
Mr. Drayton’s case remains pending in Pitt County Superior Court. He has been found not guilty of Assault on a Police Officer and is currently facing a charge of Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer. His case is set for a jury trial, and community support is critical.
Stay tuned for updates.
