Last week, Emancipate NC’s Dawn Blagrove spoke at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to undergraduate students majoring in Political Science for their annual Constitution Day Teach-in. They had a lively discussion about the constitutionally guaranteed right to vote.
Dawn and the students delved into the historical development of this right and the present-day erosion of voting rights by the North Carolina General Assembly. They examined real-world examples such as the failed election of Chief Justice Beasley and the current attacks on Justice Earls to illustrate the devastating effects of voter disenfranchisement. The group also explored the General Assembly’s efforts to disenfranchise voters and highlighted the power of their individual and collective votes. Overall, it was a successful and stimulating dialogue!
