Last month, we reported that Emancipate NC sued the Durham County Department of Social Services for public records about data related to the number and demographics of children involuntarily separated from family through the foster care system. We also sought information about the median length of time before children are either reunited with family or adopted, whether they are placed with kin or strangers, and much more.
This week, we settled the lawsuit in exchange for full production of the public records and attorneys fees! Stay tuned for key findings from our data analysis to be published in January 2023.
