Last month, law enforcement in Gaston County took the life of beloved community member Jason Lipscomb, only days before his birthday. Our Justice League Fellow, Shaun Bates, is a member of the Gaston County community.
Kerwin Pittman and Dedan Waciuri traveled to Gaston to bring supplies for a birthday celebration of Jason’s life and home-going. Over 40 family and friends gathered. The community is shaken by what they witnessed from law enforcement. They are eager to be part of an organization that is clear about the struggle. They are sick and tired of seeing Black and brown people and poor white people abused. This is a diverse community that is looking to turn Jason’s memory into power for change.
