On June 19, Director of Policy and Programming Kerwin Pittman celebrated Juneteenth by bailing out two fathers at the Wake County Jail, in collaboration with Emancipate NC’s Freedom Fighter Bond Fund and Recidivism Reduction Educational Program Services, Inc. (RREPS).
Black and brown men have been systematically targeted by the State for incarceration, removing them from their families. We celebrate the coincidence of Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, with Father’s Day, a celebration of fatherhood, children, and family.
“One of the greatest gifts one can have is children, and another greatest gift is freedom. When you combine the two, it makes for a great Father’s Day,” said Kerwin.
