It’s official! On January 1, 2017, Roy Cooper was sworn in as Governor of North Carolina. He took his oath of office minutes after the start of the new year. He will have his public inauguration ceremony next week.
Governor Cooper has his work cut out for him and there is so much work to be done. We are hopeful that under his leadership we will see positive reforms in the criminal justice arena. Specifically, we would like to see ALL people reentering society from any part of the criminal justice system have access to community based support systems designed to help the reentering person become a fully functioning member of the community. This means all people reentering the community need access to health care and substance abuse treatment. We also want to see support for funding to make this possible.
Congratulations, Governor Cooper! We look forward to working with you to create positive and sustainable change for the people of North Carolina.
