The Don’t Plead to Weed campaign is backed by lawyers and the notion that people don’t have to take a plea deal and get convicted for a misdemeanor possession charge. In North Carolina, the state crime lab cannot tell the difference between marijuana and legal CBD. Forcing the court to actually test the substance could be the difference between walking home free and a jail sentence. Plus, when we hold District Attorneys to their burden of proof, we increase the difficulty in continuing to prosecute these types of charges for conduct that is mainstream and safe.
