The room at the WG Pearson Center last Friday was full. Emancipate NC and representatives from the Movement for Family Power, Civil Rights Corps, and Operation Stop CPS brought together impacted parents, community members, social workers, law students, and lawyers for a training on the family policing system and how to defend yourself and your family in abuse/neglect/dependency court. Clearly, there is a hunger to learn about how to build the power of families struggling in and against these systems.
The event was moving and informative. OSCPS’s Amanda Wallace convened the group, as Team Emancipate’s Toia Potts introduced a new community art project that you’ll see appear at all our events until it is full of hands. MFP’s Erin Miles Cloud traveled from New York City to share political education and vital framing, while Emancipate’s Elizabeth Simpson provided 101 training on how our local court system functions in North Carolina.
Everyone was happy to see our movement forces growing. Stay tuned for future trainings and events!
