Jamie Marsicano, a former legal intern with Emancipate NC, has filed a federal lawsuit against the Atlanta Police Department alongside co-plaintiff Xavier T. de Janon. The suit challenges the department’s pattern of systemic arrests and pretextual charges targeting protesters involved in the Stop Cop City movement.
The lawsuit seeks monetary damages for the harm Marsicano experienced, as well as punitive damages against the individual officers involved in their wrongful arrest.
This case is part of a broader fight to protect the right to protest and to hold law enforcement accountable when they abuse their power to silence dissent.
