- Two Emancipate NC clients, represented by Ian Mance, with the investigation assistance of Margaux Lander, had their Life Without Parole sentences commuted by Governor Roy Cooper. - Meanwhile, Governor Cooper also commuted the death sentences of 15 people to Life Without Parole. Congratulations to them, their families, friends, and their counsel. - The “Paper for the People” initiative was a resounding success! Thanks to the support of Southerners on New Ground, Durham Beyond Policing, and community donors, we were able to add funds to the accounts of several long-term residents of Durham County Jail. This effort brought holiday cheer by enabling individuals to purchase essential commissary items, phone cards to connect with loved ones, and stamps to send holiday letters. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making a difference this holiday season!

- Emancipate NC Executive Director Dawn Blagrove believes the people of Southeast Raleigh, with its substantial population of Black residents, are safer now that RPD Officer Twiddy is retired. “However, the lack of transparency about the disciplinary steps taken for troubled officers will continue to breed distrust with the Black community,” Blagrove said.
