On April 11, Raleigh PACT, SOS Agency, and Emancipate NC co-sponsored a Community Conversation on Modern Day Lynching. Dr. Kimberly Muktarian shared the connections between the racial terror of lynchings and the modern racial terror of state-sanctioned police violence, vigilantes, land grabs, and gentrification. Attendees shared their ideas for ending racial terror for good in a dynamic exchange.
The event was held at Artspace in Raleigh, NC, and offered a visual arts element. Team Emancipate’s Executive Director, Dawn Blagrove, contributed several paintings evoking the theme of modern-day lynching.
On April 14, the Raleigh-Wake Jack & Jill Legislative Committee organized a town hall event for parents and children. They invited Dawn to join a panel discussion along with Representative Rosa Gill, Representative Robert Reives, and Jeff Carmon. The topic was “Motivating Moms in Today’s Democracy for Tomorrow’s Future.” The panelists spoke about the legislative process, voting rights, and Black political power.
