On June 25, 2025, Emancipate NC team members Dillon Sharpe, Dedan Waciuri, and Brandon Scicluna traveled to the Pitt County Courthouse to stand in solidarity with Anthony Drayton, who continues to fight false charges of resisting and assaulting police officers.

In court, only Officer C. Stokes was initially present, while Officer Jennifer Umphlet—who assaulted Mr. Drayton by striking him in the back of the head with steel handcuffs—arrived later but refused to speak with Attorney Sharpe about the events of February 24th.

Notably, the State does not plan to call Officer Umphlet as a witness and has not served her with a subpoena, despite her central role in the incident.

Although Anthony was ready to proceed to trial and clear his name, the State requested more time to secure testimony from a McDonald’s employee. The Honorable Judge Daniel Entzminger granted the motion, and the trial has been continued to September 8, 2025.
