We wrote in our last newsletter about the significance of Black activist Dejuana Bigelow’s legal victory in a defamation case brought against her by a Confederate monument supporter. That significance was not lost on the pro-justice community of Alamance County. In a county that has become known nationally for police repression of Black Lives Matter protests, it was both a cause for celebration and inspiration to think about what more might be possible.

Community members gathered after the verdict was handed down with Emancipate NC to discuss how to build on this win for civil rights for a panel discussion with Dejuana Bigelow, Bryant Crisp, Henry Carrouth, and Theresa Draughn, moderated by Dawn Blagrove.

As Dawn said introducing the panel, “This victory and this fight — which was a big fight — was one that put us one step closer to the Alamance County that we know should exist for everyone.”

Together and reinvigorated, we know our friends in Alamance have big plans for their home. We look forward to helping to make them a reality.
