In a recent press conference at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC, national civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Team Emancipate’s Dawn Blagrove demanded the federal government seek justice without delay for Shanquella Robinson, a 25-year-old Black woman murdered while traveling to Mexico. Mexican authorities have already investigated and issued an arrest warrant for Shanquella’s killers; the US government, on the other hand, has been slow to do its part.

Emancipate NC believes in a future free of prisons and other forms of state violence. We work towards this vision every day. And until we have alternatives in place to ensure our communities’ safety, we must use the tools we have to protect Black women — and all Black people — from violence.
