The fight to remove a racist Confederate monument—the one dedicated to “Our Faithful Slaves”—continues in Edenton (Tyrrell County), North Carolina. Emancipate NC represents a group of Black citizens demanding an end to this offensive government-sanctioned display.
At least five Confederate monuments still stand in Northeastern North Carolina. Leading the charge against one of them is our client, Sherryreed Robinson, who recently spoke to 13 News about her group’s efforts, including their weekly protests. She shared:
“If you know the history, those statues were erected to let you know your place. For us, for people of color, it is not anything positive. We all gotta live in this world together, and to me, this is a symbol of division. It may take some time, but maybe we’ll get this [monument removed].”
