Community members in Tyrell County invited Jaelyn Miller to attend a county commission meeting in July to urge county commissioners to finally remove their offensive Confederate Monument dedicated to the memory of “faithful slaves.”
Jaelyn warned the commission that time was running out for the commission to act voluntarily. Emancipate has helped this community to raise billboards related to the monument, organize community meetings, and conduct written and oral policy advocacy. A petition will circulate next.
If necessary, legal measures are not off the table.
